Weekend at Camber Sands – Len Goodman Dance Competition
This was an interesting weekend.
50 hours worth of work went into a 72 hour period.
Now that’s what I call intense.
Hit the jump for more on the weekend.
So the reknowned Camber weekend was back, and this time ballroom and latin (last time it was freedance).
I knew it was going to be hard work, but this time I would be running the studio section instead of taking action shots.
I arrived at 10AM on friday morning to help setup. Luckily the rain gave us a break so that we could cart all of our equipment up 3 flights of metal stairs.
We managed to get set up within the first few hours, here’s a shot taken from my trusty Fuji F200EXR:

As you can see, space was a bit of an issue. We did however manage to fit 40 people on our little studio bit, which was quite a task, but we made some sales out of it.
I was using my trusty Elemental Lighting Kit for this one, and I have to say I was very impressed. They worked reliably all weekend, and while they did misfire occasionally, they did a great job.
The start of the event came at about 7pm, and this is when we started running into issues. We use Express Digital Darkroom for our image sales, and for some reason all of our custom borders and printer setups suddenly stopped working. S**T.
Luckily, we just about managed to cobble together something resembling our sales package before customers started pouring in, so all was alright. There did come a point where we all thought the whole weekend was going to be a complete waste of time.

The whole event was a mix of boys and girls of all ages and it provided an incredibly rich subject medium for me to play with. Overall, we took about 10,000 images, of which 2,000 were taken on the studio. Quite a task.

Overall we sold about 600 individual images over the weekend, after getting up at 8am every day and ending the nights at about 1am, it certainly was tough. There was a fancy dress event which made for some good pics, we had all sorts. It ranged from the Egyptians at the top of the post to the whole cast of Toy Story.
Of course, Len Goodman was there, and he came over at one point for some pictures with the customers. Needless to say, we made quite a few sales from that.
The funniest part of the weekend had to be the drunken mums coming in for their shoot on the Saturday night. I can honestly say I was surprised when nothing got broken (hips and all) after they decided it would be a good idea to do a pyramid.

Everyone absolutely loved the pictures, and I received lots of positive feedback. I even had mums hugging me and in tears, which was really nice.
I’d like to thank everyone who came and to everyone who used the studio services, we will definately be back next year for some more fun times at Camber.
Here’s one last pic for everyone:
